Click it Thursday- Photographing your kids tip!

The first week into photography on my blog is finally here. Towards the end of each week we will be blogging about camera skills, techniques, editing, etc. We will be posting some inspiring images and have different tutorials from some really talented photographers. At the end of the week everyone will be able to link up their images and share posts on their own blog! Great for sharing and learning with one another. These posts are to help you gain better camera skills and to have fun capturing priceless memories with your family and kids.

I have some fun things to talk about with you this year and some amazing photographers lined up to teach us a skill or two! If you have any suggestions about things you would like to see, just send me an email!

Here is what you can expect towards the end of the week on my blog.

Thursday will be Click it Thursday– Tutorials by Photographers teaching camera skills.

Friday- Inspire me Friday– Inspiring images will be posted to help you be more creative with the way you photograph. We will challenge you to capture a similar image with a theme that week. You will be able to link to your photo and talk about it on your blog on Saturday.

Saturday- Photo Share Saturday– Link up your images from the theme given that week.

I sat here in silence for a good 15 minutes, staring at the screen and wondering where to begin. I am so excited to guest blog for This Mama Rocks, but all of the ideas that I had to share have suddenly left and now I have massive writers block. I guess I’ll start with a little about me. I’m Nicole, lover of cupcakes {it’s an addiction really}, wine , handbags and God. Wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. My husband just retired from the Marine Corps and we moved back to Southern California last summer. I own a photography business that primarily specializes in babies, kids, seniors and weddings.

My business came about like so many others. In high school we had a professional sports photographer give a seminar on her career, why she loved it and shared her amazing pictures. I was mesmerized. I knew that’s what I wanted for my life, but didn’t know how to get there. My life took a different path and I didn’t have the courage to follow my dream until my 5th child was born. I was already obsessive with taking pictures of my own children, have an amazingly supportive husband and nothing to lose. 2 ½ years ago I decided that I would take a leap of faith and go for my dreams. Capturing moments and emotions that will be shared over generations is what makes my heart happy.

I learned everything I possibly could over the first year. Admittedly I didn’t have a clue what I was doing in my business, or in post processing, branding and client interaction. I had to figure out what I wanted for my business and was lucky enough to find a few mentors that I admired and who were willing to invest their time in helping me.

So here we are at the start of 2011 and this year is one of amazing possibility. My 2011 goals are to be unafraid and push myself to try new things with my work, to inspire and to invest in others. I am excited to be here at This Mama Rocks and get to know all of you.

I know a lot of you are mamas with cameras that love capturing your kids. My quick tip for you is to get down on their level. When you can see the world as they do, it makes capturing them in their world a completely new experience. Kneel down or lay down and capture them with your camera head on instead of shooting down on them. It makes a huge difference in the composition of the picture and their expression.

Oxox, *Nicole
